German deathcore outfit Obey The Kraken have released their devastating new single “War Awaits”. The track is taken from their new EP “Apocrypha”, which dropped on April 10th via Seek and Strike.
Previously, the band introduced the EP with “Betrayer” and “Netherworld”. Now, “War Awaits” raises the intensity even further. The track delivers crushing breakdowns and relentless riffs. At the same time, its apocalyptic vocals push the sound into darker territory. As a result, the song hits with full force from start to finish.
Meanwhile, Obey The Kraken continue to build momentum within Germany’s extreme metal underground. Their sound blends raw aggression with strong storytelling. Therefore, “Apocrypha” feels both brutal and immersive. Each track adds another chapter to the band’s growing mythology.
The EP focuses on a dark and apocalyptic narrative. In particular, it tells the story of a fallen angel. First, the angel is cast out of heaven. Then, it forms an alliance with hell. Ultimately, it seeks to conquer heaven itself. Because of this structure, each song plays a key role in the overall concept.
Commenting on the release, the band stated:
“Apocrypha means a lot to us, especially as we hadn’t planned this second EP. After finishing our first EP ‘Worship The Sunken God’ last year, things developed naturally and we realized we had more to say within this world and sound.”
“Lyrics play a central role for us. Our first EP told the complete story of Cthulhu and his resurrection across four songs. This time, we wanted to follow the same approach. On ‘Apocrypha’, each track represents a different chapter of the story.”
In addition, the band handled the production entirely in-house. This gave them full control over the final sound. As a result, the EP feels both heavy and cohesive. At the same time, it avoids unnecessary complexity. Instead, every element supports the overall atmosphere.
Ultimately, “Apocrypha” expands on the band’s earlier work while staying true to its core. It is a focused and punishing release. Therefore, it will appeal to fans who value both heaviness and concept-driven songwriting.
