Deadsy singer Elijah Blue Allman reportedly overdosed over the weekend in Southern California and was taken to the hospital early in the morning of June 14. The substance that caused the overdose is still unknown, according to TMZ’s report on the incident. Blue has openly struggled with substance abuse in the past.
This concerning report comes after he and his mother, Cher, settled a conservatorship dispute last fall. Cher’s goal was to limit Elijah’s access to the yearly trust fund payments that his late father, Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band, had set up for him. According to the court filing, those payments total about $120,000 per year. Cher’s initial petition for temporary conservatorship, which was filed in 2023, stated:
“Elijah is entitled to regular distributions from the Trust, but given his ongoing mental health and substance abuse issues, petitioner [Cher] is concerned that any funds distributed to Elijah will be immediately spent on drugs, leaving Elijah with no assets to provide for himself and putting Elijah’s life at risk. Elijah is currently unable to manage his finances and the distribution of funds directly to Elijah would not be in his best interests.”
Elijah told the court during a follow-up hearing in early 2024 that he had been “clean and sober” for three months:
“Like many people, I have struggled with addiction and spent money in ways that have not always been the most responsible. However, I am now under the care of Dr. Howard Samuels and am attending AA meetings. I have dismissed my petition for dissolution of marriage and I am reconciling with my wife so that we can work on our relationship now that I have found a path to sobriety.”
