Argentinian modern metal outfit DeadGone has shared a new music video for their latest single, “Crawling Away“. Watch the Iris Producciones-directed clip below.
Commenting on the track, vocalist Diego Duarte states: “The lyrics reflect the trauma of a person who has been the victim of abuse, whether physical, psychological or otherwise. The song describes how the person feels humiliated, devalued, hurt and distressed by the actions of the abuser who has taken away their freedom, security and self-esteem“.
Duarte adds: “On the other hand, the song also describes how, after such an experience, one loses confidence, respect and illusion in oneself and others. It also talks about the struggle of trying to overcome the situation and walk away, looking for a way out but failing. The person feels bound and suffocated by the abuser, unable to forgive and move on. The hatred for the abuser is total and they want him to pay for what he has done. The protagonist of the song wants to regain his dignity“.
“The song is a way of expressing the pain caused by the abuse, trying to free oneself from the silence and guilt. It is a way of denouncing and raising awareness of the problem of abuse, showing the consequences for those who have suffered it, and raising a voice of denunciation asking for help and justice. This is why the song has this bitter, aggressive and desperate tone in its sound and in the way it is sung”, he says.
Talking about the concept of the video for “Crawling Away“, the singer explains that they were trying to portray different feelings and things, such as innocence, characterised by a protagonist who appears dancing with her mouth covered and her eyes filled with black tears. “It looks like she is just playing, but in reality, she is hiding all the pain she has been through. The covered mouth means that she is afraid to say anything because she is afraid that no one will believe her or because she is afraid of her abuser. The other person in the video represents the guilt one can sometimes feel. The protagonist tries to clean himself of the mud, but the more he tries, the dirtier he gets“, the Argentinian frontman shares.
DeadGone is a metal band from Oberá, Misiones, Argentina, formed in 2013. The group’s current lineup includes vocalist Diego Duarte, guitarist Cristian Camoletto, bassist Dario Mendoza, and drummer Ivan Rohte. DeadGone released their debut album in 2016, called “Tales From Disastermind” and they are currently working on a new LP.
They call their genre Modern Metal due to the mix of n metal, death metal, groove metal and metalcore in their sound. This fusion results in an intense and energetic sound that reflects the rawness of their lyrics, which unreservedly explores the dark corners of adverse thoughts and emotions.
The Oberá-based metallers are working on a new album for which they have already released two videos “When Will This Suffering End?” and “Crawling Away“, both of which reflect an evolution in their sound, incorporating modern elements into their music.
Throughout their career, they have had the opportunity to play in various cities in the province of Misiones and even in neighbouring Paraguay. DeadGone has also shared the stage with some of Argentina’s best bands such as Carajo, Massacre and Larry Zavala.
The message the group tries to convey through their music and videos is the use of art as catharsis. Their explicit lyrics and sound represent a form of expression and release of negative thoughts and feelings.
The band’s influences range from nu metal classics such as Korn, Slipknot and Linkin Park, to metalcore such as Trivium, and Killswitch Engage with death metal/deathcore overtones. There are also references to modern acts such as Jinjer, Gojira, Alpha Wolf and Loathe.
