Former Morbid Angel frontman David Vincent was asked to identify the most difficult record in his repertoire and the most difficult time in his career in a recent interview with Altars Of Metal.

Well, record-wise, probably ‘Illud [Divinum Insanus]’ was the most difficult thing that I’ve done. Yeah, that was a very strange time. That’s when Pete had his injury and he was unable to play. We had just worked in a new guitar player and a new drummer. And the writing process was really, really strange — not what I was accustomed to. I did the best that I could with what I had to work with. And I think there’s some really, really good performances on the record. Some of the material was just very strange. But again, my job is vocals, and I did the very best that I could with what I had to work with.

He also spoke about a difficult period too.

Right at the end, in 1996, when I was leaving the band, I was a very miserable person, and that’s part of the reason why I left. I needed to get some things right with myself. And I did. And even though we were really at an amazing point career-wise, when you’re not happy, you need to address it. And I’m glad I did.
