David Draiman, lead singer of Disturbed, recently proposed the idea of organizing a festival that would bring together musicians supported by different political groups, as per theprp. With Bad Bunny playing the official Super Bowl LX halftime show and Turning Point USA counterprogramming their own unofficial halftime show with Kid Rock and other artists more in line with MAGA values, Draiman’s post was undoubtedly a reference to the ongoing cultural wars that were fought this past weekend. Because of his strong support for Israel, especially during the Israel-Gaza War, Draiman has been a contentious figure for a number of years. Draiman and the band are still dealing with the fallout from his 2024 choice to sign an IDF artillery shell.
Here’s a “radical” idea.
#Music should be a bridge between all people.
The identity politics, partisan garbage, and division need to stop. I challenge any organization out there to put on a festival that has #BadBunny, #KidRock and all kinds of acts from different sides of the political spectrum, sharing the same stage.
Everyone can showcase their respective cultures and backgrounds, fuse musical elements together, perform together, celebrate life together…
…PUSH BACK AGAINST THIS DARKNESS…TOGETHER.
It can be an opportunity to share, and appreciate the respective cultures that gave birth to each artist’s unique form of entertainment.
Music can unite people like nothing else in creation.
It’s beyond time we remembered that.
Chicago-based American heavy metal band Disturbed was founded in 1994. Lead singer David Draiman, bassist John Moyer, drummer Mike Wengren, and guitarist Dan Donegan are all members of the band. Draiman replaced original lead vocalist Erich Awalt in 1996, while Moyer replaced original bassist Steve “Fuzz” Kmak in 2004. Donegan and Wengren have been part of the band since its beginning. The singles “Down With the Sickness” and “Stupify” were major contributors to the financial success of Disturbed‘s 2000 debut album, “The Sickness.” The albums “Believe” (2002), T”en Thousand Fists” (2005), “Indestructible” (2008), and “Asylum” (2010) were the band’s next releases, and they all made their Billboard 200 chart debuts at number one.
