Dave Mustaine plots post‑Megadeth life — and it might be in Hollywood

Author Benedetta Baldin - 8.3.2026

Frontman Dave Mustaine, who has led Megadeth for more than 40 years, believes the band’s farewell phase is coming, but fans shouldn’t anticipate a hasty farewell, as per MetalInjection. Mustaine hinted that a last tour would take three to five years in a recent interview with Kerrang!. However, Mustaine is already planning his life outside of thrash metal, and Hollywood is calling, even though Megadeth‘s demise is imminent. Mustaine stated in an interview with Classic Rock (via Guitar) that he is really thinking about going into acting after Megadeth concludes. Despite his prior on-screen appearances, he wishes to fully hone his trade.

I wouldn’t mind studying acting. I’ve already done a ton of stuff on TV… so I’m very accustomed to being in front of the camera. I think that might be fun to do.

Mustaine’s prior credits include voice acting in the 2017 horror-musical Halloween Pussy Trap Kill Kill and a villainous role as Torchy Thompson on the 2001 TV series Black Scorpion. Over the years, he has also hosted game programs and appeared in a number of sitcoms and films. Long-time followers may be shocked to learn that Mustaine even stated that, given the appropriate situation, he would think about removing his signature red hair.

If they asked me to cut my hair, I’d be willing to do it! But it would have to be for a guaranteed part – and a big part.

Mustaine wants to concentrate on mentoring in addition to acting. According to the guitarist, he is excited to impart his expertise to aspiring musicians of all ages.

Actually, it doesn’t even have to be a younger musician. If it’s somebody that’s a little bit older and they want to learn what it is that makes Dave tick, I don’t care about their date of birth, I just want to be able to share. I’ve been gifted. I wouldn’t be this good on my own.
