Cradle Of Filth singer Dani Filth has once again spoken out about the current state of the music industry and in particular streaming services like Spotify. In a recent interview with Sonic Perspectives, Filth expressed his concerns about artists’ livelihoods and the changes in the music industry.
Filth stressed that he does not have a Spotify account out of solidarity with other musicians. He strongly criticised the payment practices of streaming services, saying they are unfair to artists. Filth stressed the importance of physical recordings such as CDs and vinyl and hoped that fans would support bands by buying them.
In an interview, Filth compared the situation to a grocery store where customers cannot take products for free. He wondered how bands could survive if they were not properly compensated for their music. Filth also raised concerns that many well-known artists have had to find other work since the pandemic and are releasing fewer albums.
Filth also mentioned the band’s upcoming collaboration with Ed Sheeran and commented on the dominance of mainstream music on the radio. He described the situation as a kind of mind control, where listeners remember songs because they are played constantly.
Finally, Filth stressed the loyalty and passion of metal music fans for the genre. He described the metal community as cannibalistic, but at the same time very loyal, and said that fans are happy to buy special editions and show their support for bands.
Cradle Of Filth will release their fourteenth album “The Screaming Of The Valkyries” on March 21st via Napalm Records.
