Charlotte, North Carolina doom outfit Cosmic Reaper have released their second single “Bloodfeather,” offering a foreboding taste of their upcoming full-length “Bleed The Wicked, Drown The Damned.” The album is set for release on September 26th through Heavy Psych Sounds.
“Bloodfeather” is a slow-burning juggernaut built on crushing riffs and hypnotic ambiance, capturing the band’s signature fusion of heavy doom and cosmic despair. According to the band, the track was inspired by a goose they accidentally struck with their van while crossing a bridge into Baltimore—transformed into a thunderous tribute to Aphrodite through ritualistic themes and pounding instrumentation.
Formed in 2017, Cosmic Reaper takes cues from doom legends like Black Sabbath and Saint Vitus, while also drawing influence from grunge and hardcore, channeling the raw energy of bands like Soundgarden and Snapcase. Their 2021 self-titled debut established them in the psych-sludge scene, followed by “Doom Sessions Vol. 7” which dove into darker, more atmospheric territory.
Now featuring guitarist Peter Snasdell alongside Thad Collis (vocals/guitar), Garrett Garlington (bass), and Jeremy Grobsmith (drums), the band has evolved into a twin-guitar powerhouse. The new lineup adds weight and harmonic depth, pushing their sound into even more ominous realms.
