Lead singer Mark Hunter declared that Chimaira was finished in September 2014. However, it appears that is no longer the case. Even though the news is heart wrenching, the band obviously had a terrific run. Chimaira released two EPs and seven LPs in 15 years. That’s a lot of effort, so it seems sense that the band would want to stop. Well, at least finish it in the studio. Although Chimaira hasn’t put out a record since 2013, they have undoubtedly participated in a number of reunion concerts and tours. Their very first in 2017. Their second in 2020. Their third in 2023 and 2024. And in 2024, Chimaira took off their festival shoes for the first time in more than ten years at the Inkcarceration Festival. This year, they’re playing at Aftershock, Louder Than Life, Welcome To Rockville, and most recently, Milwaukee Metalfest. This past Friday, May 16, at the magnificent Milwaukee Metalfest, Chimaira performed two songs that haven’t been heard in decades: “Lumps,” from their debut LP, and “Divination,” from their debut EP. It has been 25 years since “Divination” was released, and 20 years since “Lumps” did the same. Chimaira also recently established their own record label, White Cobra Records, and reissued the 2005 self-titled album from which “Lumps” is taken.
