Children of Bodom made their long‑awaited return to the stage at Helsinki’s iconic Tavastia club, performing their first concert since 2019. The special event, titled “A Celebration of Music”, marked an emotional and historic moment for fans and band members alike. The show brought together original members Janne Warman, Henkka Blacksmith, and Jaska Raatikainen, joined by returning guitarist Alexander Kuoppala — performing live with the band for the first time since 2003 — and Samy Elbanna of Lost Society, who stepped in on vocals and guitar to honor the legacy of Alexi Laiho.
The Tavastia performance was conceived as a tribute to Laiho and a celebration of the band’s musical legacy, fulfilling a long‑standing wish from fans to see the group’s music performed live again. The band emphasized that the night was meant to honor both their history and the memory of their late frontman. As expected for a tribute event, the performance leaned heavily into the band’s most beloved tracks, leaving fans very emotional and wanting for more.
Setlist:
Formed in Espoo in the early 1990s, Children Of Bodom rose to international fame with albums such as “Something Wild”, “Hatebreeder”, and “Follow the Reaper”. Known for their technical musicianship, explosive live performances, and Alexi Laiho’s virtuosic guitar work, the band became one of Finland’s most successful metal exports.
With another show planned for tomorrow in the same location, we’ll have to see if they will keep the same setlist or will make some changes. Both shows have been sold out for over four months in advance.
