Chad Gilbert (New Found Glory) has passed away

New Found Glory have announced the death of their longtime guitarist and backing vocalist Chad Gilbert, as per theprp. Beyond his landmark work with the pop-punk pioneers, Gilbert was a prolific figure in the scene, having performed with hardcore outfits like Shai Hulud, Morning Again, and Hazen Street. On behalf of the Chaoszine team, our deepest sympathies to Gilbert’s family, friends and loved ones.

His passing follows a courageous 16-year battle with cancer, beginning with a thyroid cancer diagnosis in 2010. After undergoing surgery to remove a tumor in December 2021, he faced multiple subsequent operations in the years that followed, including procedures in March to remove several brain tumors. In April, Gilbert revealed that his condition had advanced to stage 4 adrenocortical carcinoma. His death was officially confirmed on September 20th by his partner, Lisa Cimorelli, alongside his New Found Glory bandmates.

On the morning of September 20th, Chad Everett Gilbert passed away peacefully in his sleep. He left this world surrounded by friends and family and took his final breaths with his wife and mother by his side, just as he wished. We are devastated and shocked by how quickly he left us, yet so grateful for how peacefully and smoothly he went. The amount of visitors that crowded the hospital lobby at a moment’s notice is a testament to how beloved and cherished Chad was, and always will be. He was a legendary musician, but his favorite accomplishment was being a husband and father. His biggest dreams came true. He is survived by his wife, Lisa, his daughter, Lily, his mother, Jackie, and his brother, Brian.
