Things just got ugly between Brent Hinds and his former bandmates in Mastodon. The longtime guitarist, who left the band in March after 25 years, took to Instagram to slam the group as a “shit band with horrible humans.” His comment came under a fan post celebrating the anniversary of the “Once More ’Round The Sun” album, where someone said they’d miss him—Hinds clearly doesn’t feel the same.
Though the band originally said the split was mutual and wished him well, Hinds’s recent remarks suggest otherwise. Since his departure, the band has continued touring with fill-in guitarists Ben Eller and Nick Johnston. Guitarist Bill Kelliher has said they’re still looking for the right permanent replacement—someone talented, easy to get along with, and built for life on the road.
Hinds, meanwhile, has already moved on, performing with his side project Fiend Without a Face just weeks after parting ways with the band. Whatever went down behind the scenes, it’s clear the breakup wasn’t as friendly as it first seemed.
