In court, former Turnstile guitarist Brady Ebert claimed that his recent altercation with Turnstile vocalist Brendan Yates’ father, William Yates, was “pure self-defense”, as per theprp. The Baltimore Banner reports that Ebert, 33, made the claim after being arrested on March 29, 2026, for allegedly running over William Yates, 79, in his 2001 Buick LeSabre. Ebert was accused of first-degree assault and attempted second-degree murder, and he is still being held in connection with the case.

I’m sorry, but this is pure self-defence, I was straight-up attacked” Ebert reportedly said to a district court commissioner, pointing out that CCTV footage of the incident would contradict the police’s version of events. Assistant State’s Attorney Dominic Plantamura argued that Ebert should stay in detention during a bail hearing earlier this month, calling the event “a clearly targeted attack” on William. In the end, the judge refused to grant Ebert bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for May. The police report claimed that Ebert drove up to the Yates residence and started honking and yelling profanities at William’s daughter, her husband, and their small children, citing video from a neighbor’s home.

According to police, the video showed Ebert veering at William after William appeared to wave him off as he came down the driveway. William allegedly responded by grabbing a rock from his driveway and hurling it at Ebert’s vehicle, striking the back door. According to the police report, this led Ebert to reverse the vehicle and eventually veer straight onto William at a high speed, breaking his leg to the point that a bone was visible. While William was waiting for medical help, Ebert is said to have later told him he “deserved it.” Ebert is reported to have fled the scene before being taken into custody.

The Yates family later reported to the authorities that Ebert had been involved in a series of altercations, this one being the most recent. On March 13th, they said, Ebert drew up close to William on the sidewalk and yelled profanities at him before turning three points, swerving and giving him the finger. Additionally, it is said that a few days later, Ebert drove up to the Yates home and yelled profanities at William’s wife and one of her friends as they were sitting outside.
