Boundaries have unveiled ‘May this pain never leave’, from “Yearning: the unbeautiful after” (17th July via Sumerian Records), accompanied by a blistering performance video. Watch the video here.
Directed by the band’s longtime photographer/videographer Sarah Holick, the video was filmed at The Webster Underground in their hometown of Hartford, Connecticut, where Boundaries thanked fans who attended the shoot with an intimate performance following filming.
“The premise of the song is laid out very plainly and intentionally,” vocalist Matthew McDougal notes. “It exists as an extension of the Colin Parkes quote: ‘The pain of grief is just as much a part of life as the joy of love; it is, perhaps, the price we pay for love, the cost of commitment.’” The song was written in the wake of the 2025 plane crash that claimed the lives of Dave Shapiro, Kendall Fortner, and Emma Huke along with three others. “With the sudden and violent loss of a number of people close to the band this past year it became impossible to not write about the bereavement and the subsequent emotions. As much as it hurts to miss these people, I hope with all my heart it never stops so that I may miss them with the weight and significance they deserve.”
Boundaries are in the final days of a European tour that has seen them perform at a number of festivals: Rock Am Ring, Rock Im Park, and Download Festival, where Kerrang! dubbed their set “the nastiest of the weekend,” noting that “their concussive breakdowns and barked vocals ignited a vortex of dust and flailing limbs.” The tour wraps up next week and includes upcoming outings at Jera on Air, Impericon Festival, and Vainstream Festival. The band returns to the road in the U.S. later this month, with spots at Warped Tour in Long Beach, Calif., and Louder Than Life. A six-week fall tour with Knocked Loose begins on 26th September.
The band previously shared three songs from the forthcoming album: ‘Death will follow me‘, ‘Skies cast amber black‘, and ‘Only endless‘, which has been added to SiriusXM’s Octane channel. Revolver has described the new music as “awesomely pissed off,”Knotfest noted the “unrelenting aggression” shown on the new tracks, and Rock Sound said they’re “demonstrating that they have a knack for penning a stunning melody within the chaos.”
Recorded in the fall of 2025 with producer Drew Fulk (Knocked Loose, Fit For A King), “Yearning: the unbeautiful after” captures Boundaries at their most punishing, deliberate, and focused. The fourteen-track album features guest appearances from The Plot In You’s Landon Tewers (‘Crowned and crucified’) and Make Them Suffer (‘Torn wide open‘).
“With the record, we aimed to be uncompromising and really plant our flag,”McDougal adds. “As more time passes, heavy music continues to lose its teeth. This genre is supposed to be threatening; it should have an edge and make you feel something. We tried to create an album with urgency.”
