“Bots attacked our facebook page, there were tens of thousands of comments posting untrue facts about the Russia-Ukraine war” – Interview with Schmier of Destruction

Author Flavia Andrade - 6.3.2025

After their 40-year-anniversary tour through South America and Europe, German Thrash-Teutons Destruction have no rest and strike again with their new album “Birth Of Malice”, out on March 7, 2024, via Napalm Records. Founder Schmier once again combines his dual vocal/bass attack with crashing riffs from dual battle axe masters Martin Furia and Damir Eskić, while Randy Black blasts his drums to new heights. As witnessed on their previous thrash-fest “Diabolical”(2022), Destruction return with their uniquely raw and brutal sound, delivering merciless songs with a touch more variety and groove this time. All twelve songs straight from the butchers hit with a direct and clean sound – resulting in addictive metal anthems for the next generation of thrashers.

Chaoszine had the opportunity to chat with Schmier about the new album, with an in-depth look at many of the songs featured on the upcoming record. He spoke of the new Destruction movie, to be released in the near future, and reminisced on the beginnings of the band, and how their history comes up on the track “Destruction“. Schmier also spoke of the renewal of the heavy metal audience, with fathers bringing their sons to watch the concerts.

The new album sounds darker, a sign of the times, with lots of political lyrics, also discussed during this talk. The negativity, though, always comes with suggested solutions, poiting towards a positive way. The punk rock attitude present in Destruction‘s music and lyrics was also addresed in this talk, and the brainwashing that people are going through because of the internet. Schmier shared Destruction‘s experience of being attacked by bots on Facebook, just because they announced their Russian leg of their tour would be canceled. He also addressed AI and the possibilities of their good use for the future.

Another topic that was addressed was the naming of a big german chemical industry in the song “Dealer of Death“, a company that manufactured the Zyklon B gas used in the world war. He also addressed the relationship germans have with the memory of the past century’s wars.
