San Francisco post-black metal band Bosse-de-Nage have released their new single “In the Name of the Moth”, offering another look at their upcoming full-length album “Hidden Fires Burn Hottest”. The record arrives on March 6 through The Flenser and marks the band’s first album since “Further Still”.

Instead of leaning on pure aggression, “Hidden Fires Burn Hottest” focuses on atmosphere, tension, and emotional weight. While the intensity remains, it no longer drives the songs. The band lets dynamics and space do the heavy lifting, allowing quieter moments to carry as much impact as the louder ones. As a result, the material feels more fluid and harder to pin down stylistically.

The album continues Bosse-de-Nage’s long relationship with The Flenser, a collaboration that stretches back more than fifteen years. Unlike many peers, the band has developed largely outside the usual touring and hype cycles. Over time, that isolation has helped their sound drift away from strict black metal roots into something more abstract and personal.

Lyrically, the album treats emotions as physical spaces. “No Such Place” explores a location that should not exist but somehow does, while “Immortality Project” looks at endless possibility as a burden rather than a gift. These songs do not describe feelings from a distance. Instead, they place the listener inside them.

“Hidden Fires Burn Hottest” was recorded by Jack Shirley at Atomic Garden East and mixed and mastered by Richard Chowenhill of Agriculture. Several songs began taking shape before the pandemic, which gave the band rare time to revisit and refine ideas. For the first time, vocalist Bryan Manning wrote lyrics well in advance, removing deadline pressure and changing the overall feel of the writing process.

After the tightly focused approach of “Further Still”, the band aimed for something looser and stranger. The new album allows ideas to stretch out and develop naturally. It even includes “Mementos”, which could be considered the first love song Bosse-de-Nage have written. Still, the record avoids neat resolutions. It pulls from private lows and uneasy thoughts, sometimes with a dark sense of humor lurking beneath the surface.

Pre-orders for “Hidden Fires Burn Hottest” are now available, including limited neon vinyl, CD, cassette, and a new T-shirt design.
