Long-running French avant-garde black metal collective Blut Aus Nord have released their crushing new track “The Ordeal”. The song appears on their upcoming album “Ethereal Horizons”, which drops on November 28, through Debemur Morti Productions.
Frontman Vindsval reflected on the band’s creative journey, saying, “I’ve learned over the years that, when it comes to my own musical creativity, the truth of today is rarely the truth of tomorrow.” This spirit of transformation fuels “Ethereal Horizons”, a record that connects every era of the band’s history while pushing their sound into new dimensions.
“The Ordeal” continues the path started with “Shadows Breathe First”, combining heavy, atmospheric layers with their signature surreal melodies. Therefore, it represents the band at their most complete — richer, deeper, grander, and more human than ever. The record bridges the organic and the futuristic, guiding listeners through vivid, immersive soundscapes that feel both grounded and transcendent.
After years exploring eerie Lovecraft-inspired worlds, Blut Aus Nord now embrace a more melodic and flowing sound. The result recalls the emotion and grandeur of “Memoria Vetusta III: Saturnian Poetry” and “Hallucinogen”. In addition, the album blends celestial guitar work, swirling synth textures, and bursts of classic, prog, and post-rock rhythm. Vindsval’s vocals range from spectral growls to haunting cleans, giving the songs a wide emotional depth.
Recorded at Earthsound Studio and mastered by Bruno Varea at Upload Studio, “Ethereal Horizons” also features artwork by Maciej Kamuda. The visuals reflect the record’s vast emotional and cosmic scope. “The Ordeal” is available to stream below and on all major platforms, while pre-orders for the album are open now on Bandcamp.
