Morris Kolontyrsky, the longtime guitarist for progressive death metal outfit Blood Incantation, is venturing into ambient, experimental, and drone territory with his debut solo album titled “Origination”, set to be released on October 10th via Projekt Records.
Kolontyrsky has spent nearly 15 years challenging genre expectations with his main project, and “Origination” pushes his creativity further. The album spans approximately 69 minutes of immersive sound environments that contrast sharply with the band’s heavier style, embracing cosmic textures and subtle yet intense guitar work.
Drawing from influences like krautrock, drone, and progressive experimentation, the record offers a dynamic blend. Tracks such as “Cyclical Behaviour” and “Expanding and Contracting” combine ethereal atmospheres with sharp, restrained shredding, while “Infiniscape,” “Returning,” and “Weaving of Fields” venture into vast, haunting drones. “Spiraling Into Continuous Self” conveys an almost cinematic minimalism, evoking a sensation akin to computerized raindrops against a backdrop of Cold War-era stillness.
Recorded in his home studio during early 2025, Kolontyrsky made creative use of a range of gear including a Roland JP-8000, Korg Minilogue, Moog MicroMoog, Soma Lyra-8, Soma Cosmos, and his B.C. Rich Mockingbird guitar. Ambient pioneer Steve Roach contributes additional layers of drones and textures, amplifying the album’s immersive, genre-blending qualities.
