The American band Blink-182 was founded in 1992 in Poway, California. Bassist and vocalist Mark Hoppus, guitarist and vocalist Tom DeLonge, and drummer Travis Barker make up its current and most well-known lineup. Pop-punk is a musical style that combines fast-paced punk rock with catchy pop tunes, yet its sound has changed over the course of their history. Relationships, teenage annoyance, and maturity—or lack thereof—are the main topics of its songs. The group first became well-known for its exuberant live performances and caustic humour after emerging from a skate punk subculture in a suburban area of Southern California. The band’s first album, “Cheshire Cat”, and second studio album, “Dude Ranch”, were released by independent label Grilled Cheese, a branch of Cargo Records, in 1995 and 1997, respectively, with founding drummer Scott Raynor.
These releases contributed to the band’s minor popularity both domestically in the San Diego punk scene and internationally, particularly in Australia, which attracted the interest of major labels during the mainstream punk rock revival following “Dookie”. In 1998, Raynor was fired, and Barker took his place. The trio signed with MCA Records following years of independent recording and touring, including appearances on the Warped Tour. The biggest financial success came with its third and fourth albums, Enema of the State (1999) and “Take Off Your Pants and Jacket” (2001), while the singles “All the Small Things“, “Dammit“, and “What’s My Age Again?” were hits and MTV mainstays. They are recognised for popularising a new wave of pop-punk music at this phase of their career.
