Black metal shock value: Paul Ledney’s semen sale sparks controversy

During a recent performance, Paul Ledney, the drummer and frontman of the black metal band Profanatica, from New York, sold a vial of his semen at the merchandise table, drastically lowering the original price. Indeed, several others have come forward to attest to its veracity. As one of the few black metal bands based in the United States at the time, the band got its start in the early 1990s. After just two years, the original band’s members—who had previously played with an early iteration of Incantation—broke up to form a variety of other acts.

Images of what was marketed as “Paul’s actual cum” for $50 began to surface on Instagram earlier. There was a tiny vial with the purported body fluid next to the sign. As Profanatica‘s current tour continues, the price of this unusual item at the merch stand has been decreasing; at one point, it was asking $100. When Claire Darling appeared in the comments to verify that she was operating the merchandise table and that the vial did, in fact, contain Ledney’s semen, the story gained some credibility. Darling is selling merchandise for Profanatica during the band’s current live tour, according to other images on her Instagram.

If you were thinking of acquiring some yourself, it looks like it is currently sold out.
