Hardcore punk legends Black Flag are kicking off a bold new chapter with a completely revamped lineup. Founding guitarist Greg Ginn now shares the stage and studio with a fresh crew: vocalist Max Zanelly, bassist David Rodriguez, and drummer Bryce Weston — all members of a younger generation bringing new energy to the iconic band.
The group took to social media to announce the change, revealing that the new lineup is already hard at work both in the studio and at rehearsals. New music is in the works, and tour plans are currently being mapped out. This isn’t just a casual lineup tweak — it’s a full-on reboot, and a surprisingly ambitious one at that.
Formed in Hermosa Beach, California, back in 1976, Black Flag are widely considered to be the first American hardcore band. Over the years, the lineup has featured legendary figures like Keith Morris, Dez Cadena, and Henry Rollins. As recently as 2024, the band still included Mike Vallely, Harley Duggan, and Charles Wiley — but those names have now been officially retired from the roster.
Despite a long history of legal disputes and constant personnel changes, Ginn seems to have found a new direction. The message behind the reveal is loud and clear: The band isn’t interested in living in the past — they’re charging ahead, even if it means doing so with an entirely new cast.
