The band who wrote one of the best metal songs ever, “Feast Of The Damned,” Black Breath, has gotten back together, as reported by MetalInjection. Since Black Breath stopped up shop following the death of bassist Elijah Nelson in 2019, no further information about the reunion is currently accessible, including the lineup. However, their “U.S. exclusive” event will take place at Northwest Terror Fest 2026 alongside the following acts.
The Washington-based American extreme metal band Black Breath was founded in Bellingham in 2006 and subsequently relocated to Seattle. They perform death metal with elements of crust punk. The “Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal Pedal” is a crucial component of their sound and was made popular in the early 1990s by bands like Entombed, Dismember, and Edge of Sanity. In 2005, Black Breath started performing in Bellingham’s neighborhood pubs and house shows. Before they eventually recorded an EP in 2008, they released a few recordings and went on an underground tour. Under their own label, Hot Mass Records, they released the “Razor to Oblivion” EP in 2008. The band signed with Southern Lord Records, a Los Angeles-based label, in October 2009 as a result of the EP’s success.
As a support act for Victims, Rise and Fall, and Trap Them, Black Breath toured the nation to promote the EP. The EP was subsequently distributed by Southern Lord and re-released under the new label. Black Breath then traveled to the east coast to record their debut album, “Heavy Breathing”, at GodCity Studios, owned by Kurt Ballou (of Converge). Southern Lord released Heavy Breathing on March 30, 2010. Sentenced To Life, their second album, was released on March 27, 2012. Black Breath would return to GodCity Studios in October 2014 to record “Slaves Beyond Death”, their follow-up, which would be released in early 2015. On December 29, 2019, the band’s bassist, Elijah Nelson, was discovered deceased.
