BMI will honour Billy F Gibbons of ZZ TOP, with its “Troubadour Award”. The event will occur during a private reception at BMI’s Nashville office on September 18. This award is given in recognition of a songwriter who has made a deep impact on the creative community, influencing generations to follow.
As the main songwriter for ZZ TOP, Gibbons‘s credits include some of their most iconic tracks, as is the case of “La Grange“, the lead single from ZZ TOP‘s album “Tres Hombres”, which made the trio a mainstream success 50 years ago.
BMI’s VP of Creative Nashville, Clay Bradley shared:
With a career spanning several decades, Billy has penned an array of timeless hits that have left an indelible mark on the music industry. His ability to craft lyrics that resonate with audiences across generations is a testament to his songwriting prowess and he is the epitome of what the BMI Troubadour Award represents.
The night will include tribute performances and commemorative speeches by special guests during cocktail reception and dinner. Gibbons joins the list of past Troubadour Award recipients, such as John Hiatt, John Prine, Robert Earl Keen and Lucinda Williams.
