The Seattle doom duo Bell Witch and dark-folk artist Aerial Ruin have released the first single “Waves Became the Sky” from their upcoming collaborative effort “Stygian Bough Vol. II”. The song is available now below along with an accompanying video and on streaming platforms.
Serving as the follow-up to their 2020 release “Stygian Bough Volume I”, the new album continues the haunting partnership between the two acts. The collaboration merges Bell Witch’s slow, crushing doom sound with Aerial Ruin’s ethereal folk textures, creating a deeply atmospheric experience that bridges heavy and meditative tones.
Musically, “Waves Became the Sky” carries the same emotional weight and slow-burning intensity that fans have come to expect. Bell Witch, formed in 2010 and centered around Dylan Desmond and Jesse Shreibman, is known for sprawling, minimalist compositions that stretch doom metal into cinematic territory. Aerial Ruin’s contributions add an intimate, melodic counterbalance, shaping the track’s somber yet transcendent feel.
The duo’s earlier work was conceptually inspired by The Golden Bough, exploring themes of decay, renewal, and the cycles of nature and power. While “Stygian Bough Vol. II” hasn’t yet revealed its full tracklist or release date, “Waves Became the Sky” suggests that the album will once again delve into profound and poetic territory.
The bands will embark on an European and UK tour in January and will be joined by 40 Watt Sun as direct support.
