Sheffield-based post-metal force Ba’al has returned with a crushingly atmospheric new single, “Well of Sorrows”. The track is the latest preview of their upcoming second album, “The Fine Line Between Heaven and Here”, due out July 18th via Road to Masochist.
Spanning an intense eleven minutes, “Well of Sorrows” takes listeners on a slow-burning journey through eerie calm, massive riffs, and fragile melodies. It’s a dynamic and deeply emotional ride, moving seamlessly between moments of crushing heaviness and delicate introspection.
Frontman Joe Stamps delivers a standout performance, shifting effortlessly from blackened screams to nearly melodic cries. His expressive vocal range adds even more weight to the already rich emotional palette of the track. Alongside him, the band — guitarists Nick Gosling and Chris Mole, drummer Luke Rutter, and bassist Richard Spencer — maintain a tight, relentless grip on the song’s ever-evolving storm of sound.
According to Stamps, the song explores the recurring dream of someone grieving a loved one lost to suicide. It channels themes of sorrow, longing, and regret, while also serving as a powerful expression of enduring love for the departed.
“The Fine Line Between Heaven and Here” was produced, recorded, and mixed by Joe Clayton (known for work with Conjurer, Dawnwalker, Ithaca) at No Studio, with mastering handled by Brad Boatright (Hellripper, Bossk, Mantar) at Audiosiege.
