Avatar, a Swedish alternative metal band, recently re-recorded their song “Tower” on the piano. The song’s original version was featured on “Hail The Apocalypse,” the group’s fifth studio album released in 2014. Given that Avatar is presently engaged in a legal struggle to recover the rights to the aforementioned album from Fifth Island Music, formerly known as Gain Records, which Sony Music Entertainment owns, this new version of the song is very pertinent to the band at this time. Avatar “has neither ownership nor receives any royalties on Hail the Apocalypse, or any preceding albums, since 2015.” according to a press release.
This version of ‘Tower‘ became a special moment in a very special period of our lives. It feels natural to use it as a way to stop and look back for just a moment before we move forward with full force. It’s a thank you to everyone who stands by our side and makes the magic happen. Johannes Eckerström
Apart from their catalog issues, Avatar is scheduled to start recording their tenth studio album in January, with producing duties once again being overseen by Jay Ruston (Anthrax, Stone Sour). Through their own Black Waltz Records, they’re planning a 2025 release.
