The most recent Western metal band to choose to tour Russia is Attila, as per theprp. This September, the metalcore band will travel abroad for a run across the nation. Due to Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, many foreign artists have stopped travelling the region, making the decision to perform in Russia still contentious. One of the few bands to tour the area recently is As I Lay Dying. Due to a “family medical emergency” and worries over rising war tensions, Latin nu metal band Ill Niño cancelled their intentions to tour the nation this year in July.
After meeting at their high school and through mutual acquaintances, Chris “Fronz” Fronzak, Sean Heenan, Sam Halcomb, Matt Booth, and Kris Wilson founded Attila in their hometown of Atlanta in 2005. The band’s frontman, Fronzak, named it after Attila the Hun, a figure he encountered in a book. The band soon became the fourth label on Artery Recordings, a collaborative venture between the Artery Foundation and Razor & Tie. On March 30, 2007, Attila self-released their demo album “Fallacy” (not with Statik Factory, against common perception). In 2008, they signed with Artery Recordings after releasing their debut album, “Soundtrack to a Party”, with Statik Factory. Arsonists Get All The Girls, See You Next Tuesday, and more bands toured with Attila in their early years.
On May 11, 2010, Attila‘s second album and big label debut, “Rage”, was released after they signed with Artery Recordings in 2010. In Portland, Oregon, the band worked with Stephan Hawkes of Interlace Audio to record, produce, mix, and master “Rage”. On October 8, 2010, Attila released the music video for the album’s lead single, “Rage.” Along with From First to Last, Sleeping With Sirens, Abandon All Ships, Woe, Is Me, For All Those Sleeping, and Scarlett O’Hara, the band was announced on May 13, 2010, as support for Drop Dead, Gorgeous‘ headline tour, “The Pyknic pArtery Tour.” The tour would start in Texas on July 17 and end in Los Angeles on August 20.
