Atreyu reimagine “Bleeding Mascara” for 20th anniversary release of “The Curse”

Author Teemu Hakala - 15.7.2025

US metalcore band Atreyu have dropped a freshly re-recorded version of “Bleeding Mascara”, bringing new life to one of their most iconic tracks. The updated version is part of “The Curse (2025)”, a full re-recording of their breakthrough 2004 album. This new edition, captured with the band’s current lineup, is set to arrive on vinyl on August 1st, 2025.

Originally fronted by ex-vocalist Alex Varkatzas, the track now features bassist Marc “Porter” McKnight on vocals. The band went into the studio with the aim of preserving the spirit of the original while upgrading its intensity and sharpness with two decades’ worth of growth and experience.

Atreyu describe the new album as a respectful reclamation—not a rewrite, but a reimagining that’s heavier, tighter, and more fully realized. It’s a tribute to the era that helped define metalcore in the mid-2000s, now seen through the eyes of a veteran lineup.

The re-recorded “Bleeding Mascara” is streaming now below, complete with a visualizer. Several limited vinyl variants have been announced as part of the reissue rollout.

Alongside the release, the band will also hit the road in Europe this fall, with support from Unearth, Norma Jean, and Eighteen Visions.
