At Birmingham’s Villa Park, the Aston Villa Football Club honored the late Black Sabbath leader Ozzy Osbourne before their Premier League debut against Newcastle United today. Growing raised in Aston, Osbourne had a lifelong connection to the club and his hometown. He died on July 22 at the age of 76.

This is what happened:

  • After the players warm up, there was a video montage on the large screens
  • Ozzy‘s live rendition of “Crazy Train” from Back to the Beginning played as teams entered the field
  • A brand-new mural on the outside of the Holte Pub that features pictures from the iconic Holte End tifo that was on show during the Champions League match against Celtic last season
  • Bostin Brass performed his and Black Sabbath’s finest hits in the Fan Zone that he also played at Ozzy‘s funeral procession in Birmingham.
  • Fans can view and take pictures of a preserved portion of the Fan Zone Bar that served as Back To The Beginning’s backstage area, complete with its original branding and carved trees.
  • Supporters could sign a book of condolences in the Villa Store, which will be given to Ozzy‘s family
