Despite punk hero Jello Biafra just made his first performance onstage since having a hemorrhagic stroke this past March, it would appear he still has a way to go in his recovery, as per theprp. The former Dead Kennedys singer returned to the stage last weekend for a quick guest appearance with Wheelchair Sports Camp at the “TentacleFest” in San Francisco, California, which he also assisted in hosting. The 68-year-old singer and activist is still dealing with serious health issues throughout his recuperation, according to a recent statement released by his label Alternative Tentacles. Even his mere ten minutes onstage last weekend left him “visibly exhausted and pale,” according to that statement. The following is the statement that was released on July 02nd.

A bit of clarification from Alternative Tentacles Records regarding Jello Biafra’s condition.

Like all of you, we were thrilled to see Jello back on stage at TentacleFEST. That said, it’s important to keep things in perspective. Jello was only on stage for less than 10 minutes, and by the end of the event he was visibly exhausted and pale. It took lot out of him to do even that much.

He’s continuing to work hard to regain his strength and balance, but that process is going to take time. As much as we’d all love to see him back on stage regularly, it’s simply too soon to expect that of him. Like all of you, we continue to support his recovery and understand it’s going to be a long road. We want him to take all the time he needs.

In 1978, Dead Kennedys was founded in San Francisco, California. During its first eight years of existence, the band was one of the key players in the American punk scene. Lead guitarist East Bay Ray, bassist Klaus Flouride, lead vocalist Jello Biafra, drummer Ted, and rhythm guitarist 6025 made up the band’s original lineup. 6025 left in 1979, and Ted left the following year after the group recorded their critically acclaimed debut album, “Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables” (1980). D. H. Peligro, who took Ted’s place as drummer in 1981, was the band’s longest-serving member until his passing in 2022. The Dead Kennedys released three more studio albums: “Plastic Surgery Disasters” (1982), “Frankenchrist” (1985), and “Bedtime for Democracy” (1986) after recording the EP “In God We Trust Inc”. (1981).
