German progressive death metal outfit Alkaloid have released a new live version of “The Fungi From Yuggoth”. The track serves as the final advance single from the upcoming album “Bach Out of Bounds – Live in the Netherlands”, which arrives on January 23, 2026 via Season of Mist. This version reshapes the song while keeping its aggressive death metal foundation intact.

Originally, “The Fungi From Yuggoth” appeared on Alkaloid’s latest studio album “Numen”. However, the band now expands the track using compositional ideas linked to Johann Sebastian Bach. Guitarist and composer Morean explains that Alkaloid did not try to write a Bach style piece. Instead, they used Bach’s techniques to push their own songwriting in a new direction.

As a result, the live arrangement adds five string violin, cello, and longer improvisational passages. Moreover, the performance highlights the interaction between violinist Oene van Geel and drummer Hannes Grossmann, which gradually builds tension before the song’s final explosive moments. Because of this approach, the track takes on a different shape without losing its original impact.

The album captures three special concerts in the Netherlands during 2024. These shows took place at the Bachfestival in Dordrecht, Paard van Troject in The Hague, and November Music in Den Bosch. For these performances, Alkaloid expanded their lineup and leaned further into dynamic contrasts and extended sections.

“Bach Out of Bounds – Live in the Netherlands” will be released as a CD digipack and a double vinyl gatefold. Overall, the album presents a focused snapshot of Alkaloid experimenting with classical structure inside their progressive death metal framework.
