Alissa White-Gluz, singer for the Swedish melodic death metal band Arch Enemy, has teamed up with PETA and she poses as a mermaid caught in a net among fish in a recent advertising campaign.

The Canadian vocalist is known not only for her singing skills but also as an active animal rights advocate. White-Gluz has been a vegan since 1998 and has been involved in animal rights advocacy since childhood. The PETA campaign aims to promote fish rights and persuade people to reduce their consumption.

“The first thing that people are ready to … disregard as living animals are sea creatures,” White-Gluz commented in a new video interview. “We’re … invading a completely different environment and just destroying all the inhabitants in it … That’s something less talked about, but it should really be talked about, especially when you look at the statistics that say that our oceans will be dead 20 years from now.
