Platinum-certified alternative rock outfit Alien Ant Farm have officially debuted their new single, “Gaslighter,” which made its online premiere on September 22, as per theprp. The track continues the band’s ongoing partnership with Judge & Jury Records, the label through which they plan to release their next studio album. While an earlier press release from this year indicated that the forthcoming full-length would arrive before 2027, it remains unconfirmed if that release timeline is still in place. On the production side, “Gaslighter” sees Judge & Jury Records co-founders Howard Benson (My Chemical Romance, P.O.D.) and Neil Sanderson (Three Days Grace) behind the board as co-producers, collaborating alongside Gavin Brown (Billy Talent, Three Days Grace).
The band, originating from Southern California, was established in 1996 by vocalist and songwriter Dryden Mitchell, guitarist Terry Corso, bassist Tye Zamora, and drummer Mike Cosgrove. All members sought to escape their monotonous corporate employment by pursuing musical careers that enabled authentic self-expression. Their debut album, “Greatest Hits”, was independently released in the late 1990s and gained notable recognition. The album received the Best Independent Album award at the 1999 Los Angeles Music Awards, leading to a recording contract with Papa Roach‘s label, New Noize, in partnership with DreamWorks.
Their rendition of Michael Jackson‘s song “Smooth Criminal” peaked at No. 1 in Australia, No. 4 in New Zealand, No. 3 in the UK, and No. 1 on the US Modern Rock charts in 2001. Many references to Michael Jackson and his videos can be found throughout the song video. The song was included in the movie American Pie 2 and on the soundtrack of the first season of WWE Tough Enough. “Movies” was their next song, which peaked at number five in the UK and number twenty in New Zealand. In order to promote these two singles as well as their album, which went platinum, the band started touring.
