ALEXANDER BØE LEAVES IN VAIN
It is with mixed emotions that we announce the departure of our longtime bass player Alexander Bøe
What began as a temporary fill-in for 2013 European tour evolved into an incredible 13-year journey together. Alexander brought not only his distinctive bass lines and stage presence to our sound, but also his dedication and kind spirit that helped define this era of the band.
We respect Alexander’s decision to step back and focus on what’s best for his future and his other band Trollfest. Being in a band sometimes demands sacrifices, and we fully understand his need to find the right balance moving forward.
We want to thank Alexander for over a decade of friendship, creativity, and shared experiences on stages across the world. The memories we’ve created together, the music we’ve crafted, and the bonds we’ve forged will always be part of In Vain’s story.
We wish him all the best in his future endeavours and continued success with Trollfest. And finally, In Vain will not cancel any upcoming gigs as a consequence of this.
Statement from Alexander follows below:
“It’s with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to this wonderful adventure with my brothers in In Vain. It’s been well over 10 years since I was first asked to step in as a sub for the release of Ænigma and the following European tour. Back then I learned how to become a confident live performer – and how to survive on the road with no money. We’ve played for under a hundred people, and we’ve played for several thousands. Every drop of sweat and every sore neck has been worth it, shaping me into the musician I am today. I’ve also had the honor of pouring my heart into two pretty amazing albums along the way.
Still, I’ve struggled with fears and stress around touring and performing, and it’s been hard to juggle “normal life” with the realities of being a touring musician in multiple bands. This past year I’ve taken some time off to reflect on what I want my future to look like – and that journey has led me to the decision to part ways with In Vain.
I want to thank the boys – Kjetil DP, Tobias Øymo Solbakk, Sindre, Baard, Andreas Frigstad, Stig Reinhardtsen, Kjetil Alver Lund and especially Johnar Håland, who took me in as a wee lad back in 2013. And finally, thank you to everyone who has supported me and us throughout the years!”
