After ten years of silence, Swedish experimental metal project Aktiv Dödshjälp is finally back with a brand-new single, “Diamant och Kol.” The track features a powerful guest appearance by Madeleine Liljestam of Eleine.
The origins of “Diamant och Kol” go back to 2011, when it was originally written as part of a full album that never materialized. At the time, frontman Tomas Nilsson — better known as Zorn in Zornheym and formerly bassist in Dark Funeral — put the project on hold after moving to Stockholm.
Years later, fate brought the song back to life during the recording of Zornheym’s second album, “The Zornheim Sleep Experiment.” Nilsson enlisted drummer Steve Joakim of Ghostkid (ex-Zornheym), who laid down the foundation for the track. Once the music was completed, vocalist Roberth Karlsson, also tied to Aktiv Dödshjälp as well as Scar Symmetry and ex-Edge of Sanity, stepped into Wing Studios to add his signature voice.
The finishing touch came with Madeleine Liljestam, who had previously guested on the acclaimed track “Skam” from Aktiv Dödshjälp’s album “Men allting har ett slut.” Her contribution to “Diamant och Kol” adds an epic layer that elevates the song to new heights.
The release not only marks a long-awaited return but also the beginning of a new chapter. Several unreleased songs from 2011 remain in the vault, waiting to be recorded and shared with the world.
