Mysterious black metal collective Achathras composed of anonymous veterans, has shared its next single, “The Despiser Triumphant“, and unveiled the haunting artwork for their upcoming debut album, “A Darkness of the Ancient Past”, set to be released September 30th through Cult Never Dies.

The new single blends triumphant melodies with sharp riffs and relentless blast beats, carrying the unmistakable influence of early-’90s European black metal. The band’s take on the genre feels both reverent and fresh, channeling the more expansive spirit of that era beyond the usual Norwegian canon.

Achathras champions a deeper dive into the genre’s golden years, emphasizing atmospheric songwriting, caustic vocals, otherworldly synths, and epic-melodic arrangements—drawing inspiration not just from Mayhem and Darkthrone, but from a wider roster of classic acts such as Gehenna, Emperor, Dimmu Borgir and Ancient.

The artwork, crafted by Jos Dow of Shadowgap Drawings, perfectly complements the music’s dark grandeur.
