The Kiev bomb shelter was the scene of a surprise concert when Bono, frontman of Irish rock legends U2, and the band’s guitarist The Edge arrived to sing for the people in the shelter.
The concert was performed with a minimal sound system and The Edge, real name David Howell Evans, accompanied Bono, real name Paul David Hewson, on acoustic guitar.
The set included the band’s classic songs such as “With Or Without You”, “Sunday Bloody Sunday”, “Vertigo” and a version of the classic “Stand By Me”, sung with the new lyrics “Stand By Ukraine”.
Bono said that he and The Edge were invited by Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyi to perform “for solidarity with the Ukrainian people”.
