It was a warm summer in 2018, most likely, and I was determined to learn Finnish in the best way I could. So, what better way to take a peek into the songs on the Finnish charts? That’s when I discovered the EP “Texas” by Haloo Helsinki!, and since that moment, my Finnish lessons have been at least entertaining. So it isn’t a surprise at all if they’re my designated teachers, and to thank them for giving me wisdom and knowledge about this incredibly fantastic language, here’s my review of their latest release “Voiko enkelitkin eksyä“.
If you’re not as familiar with the language, it means “Can even angels get lost?”. Unfortunately, they can. Long gone are the happy atmospheres and dance vibes that characterised “Älä pelkää elämää”, and now the band has reached a new introspective level, with maturity, elegance and style. Just like they always do.
Considering that “Gardenia“, “Hys Hys” and “Vegas” are the only upbeat tracks, the listener will be more focused on the meaning of the songs, rather than the apparent external layer. The band has grown, their music has grown, and this album represents another step forward for this fantastic group. This time, they’ve chosen to take us into a deeper, almost western ambience, that resonates throughout the whole album.
Sure, we had western suggestions sparkled throughout “Hulluuden Highway” too, but this is different. More elaborate, more meaningful, more intense. Above all, Haloo Helsinki! is a solid group when it comes to quality of production, mixing and mastering, and their standard doesn’t get lower.
So if you’re ready for a journey within yourself, you will definitely enjoy “Voiko enkelitkin eksyä”. If you’re still looking for fun, you’ll also enjoy it, perhaps less than other releases though. In any case, we welcome back the Helsinki squad with a very strong album. Long live Haloo Helsinki!!
