A new era begins: Black Flag returns to the stage with fresh lineup

Hardcore punk legends Black Flag is kicking off a new era. The punk rock legends debuted their fresh lineup on Tuesday, June 10, at Mixtape 5th in Sofia, Bulgaria. Fan-shot footage from the show is already online.

Founding guitarist Greg Ginn is now joined by vocalist Max Zanelly, bassist David Rodriguez, and drummer Bryce Weston. Also the group is currently writing new material and gearing up for a busy season of shows, blending classic Black Flag energy with fresh influences.

Formed in 1976 in Hermosa Beach, California, the bandhelped shape American hardcore punk, with a lineup that once included Keith Morris, Dez Cadena, and Henry Rollins. Their most recent version featured Mike Vallely on vocals until his final show in January 2025.

Back in 2013, Ginn famously sued his former bandmates for touring as FLAG, claiming they were infringing on Black Flag‘s name and logo. A 2014 settlement allowed both bands to continue under their respective names.
