“The Boys of Dungeon Lane”, Paul McCartney‘s next album, will feature a duet with Ringo Starr titled “Home to Us“, as per UCR. A small crowd attended a listening session on Thursday night, where McCartney and producer Andrew Watt discussed the origins of each song on the album. When McCartney reached “Home to Us,” he pointed out that Starr’s involvement wasn’t really clear-cut and occurred later in the process.
I saw Ringo and said I worked with this guy Andrew, Ringo came over to Andrew’s studio and played a little bit of drums
At that point, Starr seemed to think he had given Watt enough to continue writing the song, but McCartney wanted more.
I think Ringo thought that all he had to do was play a little bit of drums, and Andrew would make some marvelous thing out of it.
Then McCartney requested that Watt retrieve Starr’s contribution.
… just see what he did, out of curiosity…I thought, ‘Wow, that’s really good…We should make the track that Ringo hoped, and then get it over to him and complete the circle.’
After that, McCartney wrote a demo with lyrics about his upbringing in Liverpool, emailed it to Starr, and requested him to sing along. After that, McCartney wrote a demo with lyrics about his upbringing in Liverpool, emailed it to Starr, and requested him to sing along. However, Starr misinterpreted the request and simply sang the chorus, giving McCartney the impression that he had little interest in the song. Starr returned to the studio to complete the singing and add additional drums after a much-needed conversation. The song also featured additional vocals by Sharleen Spiteri of Texas and Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders.
It’s a duet, it was really nice, because we’ve never done that. Ringo’s never just taken a duet with one of the Beatles, you know? So, there you go. We had it.
On May 29, “The Boys of Dungeon Lane” will be released.
