A new chapter starts for Sleep – new music, new band members and new tours

Author Benedetta Baldin - 19.6.2026

Sleep has returned with a completely redesigned lineup and a brand-new song called “Have Spacesuit Will Travel“, as per theprp. Former band member and guitarist Matt Pike (High On Fire) has left the group. Rather, by hiring Melvins drummer Dale Crover and guitarist Bubba Dupree (Brant Bjork, Void), singer/bassist Al Cisneros has completely reconstructed the stoner metal institution. As a result, “Have Spacesuit Will Travel” marks a number of firsts for the group, including this incarnation’s debut and the group’s first formal chapter without Pike.

The vibe of the first jam was obvious. It was blue sunglasses-era Iommi in the quality, and equally awesome is Bubba is also one of the coolest people I’ve been able to make music with. I wish Pike the best on his earth-bound maneuvers. – Al Cisneros

Details about this upcoming new album are yet unknown, except from the fact that Third Man Records is anticipated to release it. Cisneros has also unveiled a new comic book that “begins the saga of The Marijuanaut,” according to a product item. A journey that transports the reader to Planet Iommia, meets The Weedian, and introduces them to Iommia’s more profound reverential customs, among other things that resound inside the cosmos that Cisneros’s lyrics developed from the riff-filled realms of Sleep’s discography.

The book, which features illustrations by Dave Kloc and Arik Roper, is currently available for pre-order on thirdmanrecords.com along with a bonus flexi CD and other special stuff. In addition, the band has revealed a new tour schedule, with an artist presale scheduled to start on Tuesday, June 23rd at 10:00 a.m. local time. Next Thursday, June 25, at 10:00 a.m. local time, there will be a general onsale.
