As far as hard life in Middle Ages, it’s an era that continues to pique curiosity and inspire. Netherwilds‘ “Peasant Rising” takes us in the medieval difficult world into a modern perspective. For example the feudal revolt, or Pesant’s revolt, is a metaphor for the rebellion of modern class. Across its expanding cast of peasants, kings, executioners and mystics, the album explores collective struggle, survival and the possibility of ordinary people reclaiming power together.
The Canadian band anticipates the this album with four single: “Return the Goat”, “Siege Proof Hovel”, “Helm Yeah”, and “The Fall”. Some songs could be the soundtracks for “Skyrim”, “The Witcher”, and other visual media with medieval theme.
The album contains 22 tracks with nine skits that introduce in the next song. We consider this work as avant-garde metal. “Peasant Rising” is an album with thrash, doom, punk, and industrial influences, but it’s characterized by acoustic guitar and other instruments into medieval sounds. Besides, the versatile voice of frontman David Monks can be theatrical, demential and soft, but even furious with screams and growls, or just dirty voice.
“Peasant Rising” it’s a work that David Monks always wanted to do. The ex Tokyo Police Club‘s leader decide to write a medieval fantasy story driven and make it music. Monks says:
“It was an admittedly experimental process. but I’ve always believed experimentation creates opportunities for success. And there was something so satisfying about taking all of my knowledge and putting it into a ‘metal’ box.”
In conclusion Peasant Rising it’s a trip into this medieval fantasy world with real struggles. A work that needs to be listened especially for the enthusiatichs of Middle Ages, but not only them. It concerns every person finds hard their phase of life and needs some revolution.
Peasat Rising will be available on 9th October via King Volume Records.
